Activity

Team Building - Blindfold Lead

Have one participant blindfolded, everyone else stands in a space whilst a second participant leads the blindfolded person around them, having to go between each person in the space. The blindfolded participant puts one hand on the arm of the participant leading and has to feel the movement of the arm to find way around. It can also be done by verbal instruction instead and everyone has to try to give verbal cues to guide them around.

Team Building - Family Untangle

Everyone face each other in a circle, everyone put their hands out and shut their eyes, and grab a different participants hand with each hand. Open eyes and everyone should be facing each other with arms crossed over each other all entangled. The aim is to untangle (so everyone ends up in a normal circle holding hands) without letting go of anyone.

Animal Games

Participants mimic animal movements eg.
• Leap frogs
• Horse kicks
• Kangaroo hops
NB. Encourage the children to create their own animal movements.

Backpack Course

Everyone has a backpack, in space try to hold it above head and do exercises like squat down/ sit down and stand up, holding it above the head, then try balancing on one leg while holding it above the head. Can create a relay where everyone lines up, have to pass the backpack over the head to the next person, the person at the end has to put it on, jump to the end of the room and back, and then join the end of the line and pass it over head along the line again.

Balance

Balance beams - balance on the line one foot in front of the other with arms out,
flamingo balance - stand like a flamingo and time who can be a flamingo the longest, egg and spoon on the line.
Balance whilst completing movements - eg. crouch down whilst balanced on one leg.
Marker balance - Participants balance a marker or equivalent on a part of their body such as the head or back and perform movements. This could include
* Crawl/ walk to a point and back Get them to walk backwards for some additional tests
* Class leader calls a movement for participants. Eg. Squat, stand on one leg, lean forward etc.

Ballet Finisher & Lying Pilates Stretching

Plie challenge, everyone in circle, go round see who can make the deepest plie. Then who can balance on one leg with arms in air. Stay in circle and encourage interaction between. See if everyone can hold hands and stretch each leg behind them one at a time.
Come to lying down hug the knees, point and flex the feet, releases lower back and helps as part of cool down. Leg uncurls and lifts, point and flex the foot and alternate legs (build a rhythm, encourage pointed toes and lowering slowly as though a ballet movement. Side lying leg lifts (as in pilates) which open the hips and warm up the lower body, again bending the knee and uncurling to make it appear more graceful and balletic.
Straddle, Pike, and Flower stretches for the legs before slowly getting back up, deep breathing and giving everything a shake.
